The Schiaparelli Sale, A Personal Collection, is to be held at Christie’s Paris on the 23rd January. A fantastic and intimate personal collection of this important French designer who dominated woman’s fashion design in the 1930s. Highlights are well preserved, luxurious furs, dresses and bags in rich fabrics, other lots give an indication of Schiaparelli’s eclectic interior taste. The well worn lilac silk coloured Meridiene en Confidente, Lot 9 – features poiniantly in so many of her family photographs – the christening of her only child, Gogo for instance, where the little girl is propped up for a photo on the chaise. Estimate 600-800 Euros. Considering its present state, it would probably be best re-covered – keep the fabric to a feminine coloured silk. Other interior pieces that caught our eye were the trompe-l’oeil screen by Jean Francis Laglenne, 1932 (1899-1966), estimate 800-1200 Euros. Finally, a dash of bright pillar box red – oil on paper, a work of art by Fulco Verdura, Branche de cerfeuil, 300-500 Euros – in a simple frame, this would look stunning in any contemporary interior.
